The current U.S. economic expansion is tied for the second-longest in American history. However, economic growth is becoming less electric intensive and economic and demographic growth rates will still contribute to expected electricity demand growth but to a lesser extent. Efficiency policy is the greatest headwind on U.S. electricity demand growth, and not easily observable efficiency improvements along with economic and policy risks, contribute to further downside uncertainty.
